A high yielding disease tolerant castor variety, 48-1 for drought prone areas of Northern Dry Zone of Karnataka

Since the last four years, the sunflower crop in Northern Dry Zone Karnataka is failing due to necrosis disease. The sunflower fanners are experiencing heavy loss and they are discontinuing cultivation especially in parts of Bijapur (shallow and medium deep soils), Koppal and Bellary districts. This warrants an alternative oilseed crop suitable for this region. An attempt has been made to assess the feasibility of introducing castor as an alternative crop to sunflower.
