Regular readers of this column may remember that I have recently relocated from Adelaide to Brisbane in order to take up a postdoctoral position in the Sunshine State. Now that I have (almost) settled in, I think it is appropriate and timely to share with you some of the experiences my family and I had on our trip up. This is because it is virtually an unwritten rule that postdocs move away from the university where they obtain their PhD, at least for a few years. So I hope that some of my experiences may facilitate a smoother transition for some of you when you are in the same position as me.
