Wow, what a crazy couple of months! From being in a job that had no prospects of contract renewal due to limited funding, to being the successful applicant for a four-year postdoc! These last few months have reminded me of an episode of the television series Two and a half men, during which one of the main characters, Alan, becomes concerned about his brother Charlie's financial situation. Throughout the episode, Alan berates Charlie about not having any income for months and the prospects of running out of money and losing their comfortable lifestyles, to which Charlie s response is 'Something'll come up'. Sure enough, during dinner at his girlfriend's house, Charlie discovers he has a knack for writing and singing kids' songs, leading to an offer of a recording contract and a new career path for Charlie. Something did eventually 'come up'.
