If you haven't realized the power that registered cattle have on people, just try and walk away from the business. It's hard. And for a couple of business partners in Wisconsin, it was virtually impossible to stay away. Jim Ostrom, John Vosters and Todd Wilier own and operate Milk Source, a large dairy in Kaukauna, WI. Currently the Milk Source herd totals 8,000 cows milked at two different sites. The partners are also planning a new 7,000 cow dairy to be constructed in the next 24 months. Jim is thebusiness manager, Todd is in charge of operations/feeding and John is the cow manager. The farm is approximately 5,000 acres with another 6,000 acres contracted for forage. There's no denying that it's a big deal, with approximately 105 cows for every worker to take care of on the commercial side. But, they get results with a tank average of just over 80 pounds, a low cull rate and comfortable cattle that enjoy sand bedding.
