HSE REVISES PAT GUIDANCE - BUT NOT BY MUCH!

The HSE has revised its guidance on the hardy perennial topic of portable appliance testing (PAT). In doing so, the enforcer underlines that "it's a myth that every portable electrical appliance at work needs to be tested once a year". The law (the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989) reguires employers to ensure that electrical eguipment is maintained to prevent danger, but it does not reguire every item to be tested, or say how often testing should be carried out.
