Skip mis-hook killed worker

AN INSOLVENT construction waste contractor has been ordered to pay more than 424,000 pounds in penalties after an overturning skip lorry killed an employee. The HSE prosecuted Adis Scaffolding, which crushes construction waste rubble, after David Vickers died while tipping a skip at its site at Duckmanton near Chesterfield almost five years ago. Vickers got out of the lorry cab to deploy the stabilising rear outriggers before raising the skip using the vehicle's lifting arms. During the lifting operation, the lorry overturned and landed on him, causing fatal injuries. He died at the scene.
