'Joke' assessments cost UK Coal 1.2 million pounds

A JUDGE has ordered UKCoal Mining to pay 1.2 million pounds in fines and costs after four mineworkers died in separate incidents at collieries in Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands. After the case, the HSE's investigating inspector, Bob Leeming, said the firm, which employs around 2700 people, had not been properly checking anything that was going on at the mines.
