Fatality revealed gas failures at hundreds of pubco's premises

NATIONAL pub operator Enterprise Inns has been ordered to pay 320,000 pounds in fines and costs after its failure to carry out gas safety checks cost one of its tenant landlords his life. At the time of the incident, the company lacked gas certificates for hundred of premises. Paul Lee had been landlord of the Aintree Hotel in Bootle, Merseyside less than a month when he died on 13 November 2007. He had been found unconscious in his quarters at the hotel the day before and was rushed to hospital, but suffered a heart attack on the way.
