THIS IS an authoritative guide to that aspect of health and safety law we all hope never to have to deal with: the legal consequences of getting it wrong. As the title suggests, it concentrates on the criminal side, with reference to cases taken by the HSE, local authorities and the Crown Prosecution Service. It is not a guide to the civil side of the law (compensation claims), though it does stress things such as the need to inform insurers as soon as an incident has occurred, the desirability of checking policy cover and exclusions (preferably before you need to make a claim!) and the fact that the cost of defending a prosecution may well be covered by your employers' liability insurance.
