PM promises common sense from risk body

THE GOVERNMENT has established a Risk and Regulation Advisory Council (RRAC) to help improve understanding and management of public risk. The idea behind the new body--which was a key recommendation in the Better Regulation Commission's (BRC's) recent report on public risk--is to ensure a more rounded and considered approach to public risk in policy-making, so that "common sense" prevails. Calling the issue of public risk "one of the most challenging areas of policy-making for any government", prime minister Gordon Brown said he had created the council to "provide a catalyst for the change we need in the way policy is developed across all departments".
