摘要

NO RESPONSIBLE employer can afford to ignore the issue of drugs and alcohol. The figures speak for themselves: even in a small company of 50, seven members of staff could easily be problem drinkers and two more alcohol dependent. As far as illicit substances are concerned, remember that most drug users are adults in current employment. Nor are only health and safety at risk - alcohol abuse can also be a factor in damage to the environment, as illustrated by the Exxon Valdez disaster, one of the most catastrophic oil spills in modern times. Addiction at Work is billed as an "essential reference for organisations seeking a way through the human, ethical and legal issues" surrounding these problems. It pretty much lives up to this claim.
