Bayer MaterialScience has developed a new process for producing poly ether polycarbonate polyol using carbon dioxide (CO2) for use in the manufacture of polyurethane for mattresses, Latex International has developed a new latex formulation which enables conventional flame retardant (FR) treatments to be used in the manufacture of latex mattresses, and Rennovia has developed a new 100% bio-based nylon 6.6 polymer called Reunion. Outlast Technologies has developed a new temperature regulating fibrefill for bedding products, and a researcher at Nottingham Trent University has developed net curtains which are able to trap up to 56% of the airborne pollutants present in the home. Clariant Masterbatches has developed a black masterbatch which reflects near-infrared light rays, Huntsman Textile Effects has developed a fabric coating which enhances the depth of colour of navy blue and black fabrics, and Sanitized has developed an antimicrobial fabric finish called Pluma. Trend forecasts for the 2014/15 season were presented at Heimtextil 2014, an international trade show for home textiles, while Pantone has chosen Radiant Orchid as its Color of the Year for 2014. Steven Alan has collaborated with West Elm to develop a new range of home textiles. Hook & Loom Rug Company has launched a range of hand-made environmentally friendly rugs, Interface has developed carpet tiles which are made from recycled nylon derived from discarded fishing nets, Invista has developed a new carpet called Stainmaster PetProtect, and Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) and ReCom Technologies are trialling a new system to recover and recycle polypropylene from post-consumer carpets. The Formary has developed a new upholstery fabric made from New Zealand wool and rice straw, and Carnegie Fabrics has developed environmentally friendly fabrics which are woven using polyethylene yarns derived from sugar cane. Marina Mill has developed outdoor upholstery fabrics which glow in the dark, Polartec has developed and launched a new range of durable upholstery fabrics in partnership with CF Stinson, Ultrafabrics has developed a new range of artificial leather upholstery fabrics, and Eco Filling Australia has developed oversized floor cushions which have an environmentally friendly filling derived from eucalyptus leaves.
