EIA'S LONG-TERM ENERGY OUTLOOK REFLECTS 'MUCH HIGHER' OIL PRICES

The U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) latest long term energy outlook projects "much higher world oil prices" than the preceding forecast, issued a year ago. EIA's Annual Energy Outlook 2006 (AEO2006) projects world oil prices, which are now expressed in terms of the average price of imported low-sulfur crude oil to the U.S., will increase from 40.49/bbl in 2004 to 54.08/bbl in 2025, about 21 higher than was projected in the 2005 Outlook. By 2030, the world oil price under EIA's base case will increase to 56.97/bbl.
