Commentary on 'mapping health communication scholarship: breadth, depth, and agenda of published research in Health Communication': implications for reaching practitioners with communication research.

The article by Kim et al. (2010) in this issue summarizes research published in Health Communication from its inception in 1989 through early 2010.I laud the authors for their extensive analyses and provocative discussion points. Their work serves not only as a way to take stock of what has been done, but as an excellent opportunity to look to the future for this journal and the discipline of health communication, especially as they pertain to communication practice in medical and public health settings.
