Interactions of silica nanoparticles with poly (ethylene oxide) and poly(acrylic acid): Effect of the polymer molecular weight and of the surface charge

One powerful way of investigating the adsorption of polymers like PEO on colloidal particles is given by the method of small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The scattering intensity from colloidal particles coated with a diffuse adsorbed layer contains two components: one due to the average concentration profile, and one due to the fluctuations in the adsorbed layer.
