Valspar reports flat earnings in fiscal first quarter on weak international markets

Valspar's earnings were virtually unchanged in the 2013 fiscal first quarter as the company recorded flat revenue at its coatings segment, while paint segment revenue declined by 3%. Net income for the three months to 25 January slipped marginally to $55 million compared to $55.8 million in the prior year first quarter. Sales from coatings held at $498 million, while sales from paints dipped to $329 million compared to $340 million last time.
