Waterborne coating composition containing dialkyl carbonates having ether functions as coalescent agents and use thereof

A first object of the present invention relates to a waterborne coating composition comprising (a) at least one resin, (b) at least one coalescent agent consisting of a compound having general formula (I): R(OR~1)_nOC(O)O(R~2O)_mR~3 wherein R and R~3, independently of each other, are a linear or branched alkyl group, having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably from 1 to 4 ; R~1 is a linear or branched alkyl group, having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably from 2 to 4; R~2 is a linear or branched alkyl group, having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably from 2 to 3; n is an integer varying from 1 to 4 , preferably from 1 to 2; m is an integer varying from 0 to 4 , preferably from 0 to 2; (c) water, (d) optionally, pigments and/or fillers and/or additives. A second object of the present invention relates to the use of the above compounds having general formula (I) as coalescent agents in coating compositions. Further objects of the present invention are a method for the preparation of said compositions and a method for the coating of a substrate with the composition.
