Solid paint compositions comprising a chelating thickener and a clay thickener

In a closely related patent to EP 1840173 (abstracted in this issue), another approach to forming a solid paint that limits any splashing of nearby surfaces and reduces clean-up, is described. An aqueous paint composition, capable of forming a self-supporting, dimensionally stable paint, comprises: 1) 1-6 wt% chelating thickener (for example alkanolamine titanate complexes, zirconium lactic acid complex); 2) 2-8 wt% clay thickener (including bentonite, hectorite and some smectite clays such as Veegum or Vangel).
