Determination of Maximum Throughput of Thickeners. (Establishing a Reference for Thickener Experimentation).

Tonnage measurements on plant thickeners over a two-month period indicate the need for a reference if accurate results are to be obtained from thickener experiments under variable plant conditions. To determine the maximum throughput it is necessary to measure the total tonnage discharged over the complete 7-day weekly cycle. Planned experiments at West Driefontein were discontinued as existing instrumentation proved to be inadequate and the expense of the required instrumentation was not warranted. Practical demonstrations of various thickener improvements on mines with a thickening problem are now recommended. (Author)
