Along with Mason and his cousin Brent Mason, who is assistant manager, the hatchery provides fulltime jobs for three people, and for up to around eight to 10 different part-timers over the course of the year. Located next to Kitasoo Creek the hatchery currently turns out about 1.5 million chum and maybe around 60,000 coho fry: far fewer coho than chum salmon because they have to remain at the hatchery for an entire year and so take up more available space.
