摘要

Leon Alexander isn't happy, and nor are many other recreational anglers across the United States. Nine of the country's mitigation fish hatcheries are back in the glue - in danger of being closed - again, just a matter of months after being dug out bya campaign that united trout anglers and hatchery supporters across the country. Anglers, congressmen and many other supporters of the hatcheries were incensed last year when it took so much effort to persuade the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS)to put money back into the 2012 federal budget to cover the mitigation work carried out by the hatcheries. The faculties were built to compensate for water-use projects that adversely affected native fish populations, projects such as hydro-generation dams and irrigation channels initiated by electricity-generating bodies such as the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and other water-project agencies such as the US Army Corps of Engineers. So, when the FWS failed to put money into this year's federal budget to cover the cost of the mitigation work done at the hatcheries it outraged many people who saw that closing down that fish-reinstatement work would damage local economies around the facilities.
