The Financial Times repotted that the United Nations has called for the EPA to suspend the ethanol mandate for production as it could affect European producers of ethanol. In addition, 25 US senators have urged a cut, as about 40% of the US corn crop is used for producing ethanol. The EPA was also urged in 2008 to cut the ethanol mandate as corn prices reached similar highs, but it was never adjusted.
