A number of groups, including the American Petroleum Institute (API), have petitioned the US EPA to delay introducing stricter ozone regulations until at least 2013. Under the new regulations, over 85% of the counties that currently employ ozone monitors would fail to be in compliance, which would cause businesses in these areas to be subjected to more regulation and spend more money on ozone controls.
