To achieve a critical mass and obtain economies of scale in the competitive US refining market, Delek US Holdings, the US R&M arm of Israeli integrated energy firm Delek Group, has announced that it is in talks to buy all or part of one of Israel's biggest fuel retailers, Alon Israel Oil Go. In addition to a substantial presence on Israel's retail market, any transaction would give Delek a stake in refining and retail assets in the US: Alon Israel owns 48% of Alon USA Energy, which runs 300 retail stations in the US Southwest, as well as refineries in Texas, California, and Louisiana with a combined capacity of 217K b/d. Delek operates refineries in Tyler, Texas and E1 Dorado, Arkansas with a combined capacity of 155K b/d.
