In order to prepare ALON bonded corundum refractories, the formation and stabilization of aluminum oxynitride spinel (ALON) during reaction between Al_2O_3 and AlN and sintering of corundum-AlN-active Al_2O_3 were studied. It was found that MgO was a proper stabilizer. The AlN/Al_2O_3 ratio is improtant for sintering. The proper ratio is about 11/89.
