Canada LNG Ailments at Infectious Stage

The paralysis afflicting Canada's planned West Coast LNG industry is spreading both up- and downstream. The National Energy Board has just agreed to extend the deadline for Nova Gas Transmission to start building a new gas pipeline in northeastern British Columbia because Malaysian state Petronas' proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG project remains at a standstill. The deadline has been pushed back a year to June 2017. Nova's North Montney pipeline is intended to tie into the proposed Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Pipeline, planned to ship gas to Pacific NorthWest. Petronas is still awaiting the final go-ahead for the LNG project from Ottawa, to be based on a report from the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, and Nova said it could not start work until the Malaysian state giant decides whether to proceed.
