This week's decision by ConocoPhillips and Marathon to cease LNG exports from the Kenai terminal in southern Alaska within a couple of months, after more than 40 years of operation, should have come as no surprise in some ways, given the terminal's age. But the move was abrupt and accompanied by no complete or convincing explanation — possibly raising warning flags for cautious Japanese buyers at a time when Canadian and potentially much bigger Alaska projects may be trying to pin down buyers (p10).
