SPOT LNG Asian Spot Prices Hit Highest in Seven Months, Europe Lifts on Rough Impact

Spot LNG prices in Northeast Asia shot up 500 to $5.95 per million Btu — their highest since early January — on a combination of thin trading, scarce supply and pressing short positions, according to WGI assessments for LNG cargoes for delivery four to eight weeks ahead. In Southwest Europe, spot LNG prices also jumped 500 this week to $5/MMBtu. The UK National Balancing Point (NBP) day-ahead price rose 130 to $4.46/MMBtu, shored up by lack of LNG supply and an unplanned outage at the Morecambe terminal, while August futures dropped 40 to $4.46. Netbacks for Mideast sellers in Asia were nearly $l/MMBtu higher than in Southwest Europe, while UK/Belgian netbacks were almost $1.60 lower than in Asia.
