Italian gas imports jumped 20% year-on-year in July to 5.8 billion cubic meters (6.6 billion cubic feet per day) as a heatwave fueled demand for airconditioning. Power grid Tema said monthly power use was its highest ever last month — up 13% — as temperatures soared 4°C above year-earlier levels. Gas imports from Algeria leapt by 75% to 0.7 Bcm in July, and from Russia by 29% to 2.8 Bcm. Prices on Italy's PSV gas hub were on Aug. 10 at a clear $1 premium to the Dutch TTF price of $6.43 per million Btu.
