RWE Exits Excelerate

German RWE's supply and trading division said on Aug. 2 it is selling its 50% stake in US-based LNG shipowner and supplier Excelerate Energy, with effect from mid-2013. The buyer is the current US billionaire co-owner, George B. Kaiser, who owned Excelerate outright until 2008 and will do so again once the deal, subject to the RWE supervisory board's approval, is complete. The German utility declined to disclose price, but admitted a "small triple-digit million euro" book loss. It bought the 50% stake five years ago for $500 million, then worth ?350 million.
