Lebanon Revisits LNG Import Plan as Power Demand Grows

Dusting off plans abandoned on cost grounds over a decade ago, Lebanon is now looking to import LNG to meet growing power demand as it adjusts to the ongoing civil war in neighboring Syria and continued disruptions to Egyptian gas supplies. At least three companies — US-based Excelerate Energy and Norwegian firms Golar LNG and Hoegh LNG — are vying for a contract to install import infrastructure by 2015, for which an award is due by the end of the third quarter (IOD Feb.8' 13).
