Falling Costs Push Solar PV Into UK Renewables Spotlight

As offshore wind slides down the UK government's list of green energy priorities, solar power is moving up. After largely ignoring solar photovoltaics (PV) in its first Renewable Energy Roadmap, published in July 2011, the government now says the technology could have a bright future if installation costs continue to fall. It forecasts that installed solar PV capacity will grow fourfold to top 10 gigawatts by 2020, and Energy Minister Greg Barker says that if costs can be brought down quickly enough, it would be "desirable" to reach 20 GW by 2023.
