Turkey's Tanap pipeline is becoming the weak link in the process of delivering Caspian gas direct to Europe for the first time. There is little doubt that Tanap, backed by BP and Azerbaijan's state Socar, will be built. After all, it is the only option for that leg of the journey. But as the deadline looms for the choice of the final route to take 10 billion cubic meters per year (970 million cubic feet per day) of Shah Deniz gas into European markets from the Turkish border, Tanap has a lot of catching up to do.
