Informal Sectors' Role In Building Socialist Market Economy

Xu Gengsheng is a professor of Institute of World Economics and Politics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Zhang Yuyan is vice professor of Institute of World Economics and Politics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Since China initiated the policy of economic reform and opening to the outside world in 1978, it has won great achievements which are viewed by some observers as a miracle. Its remarkable economic development results from several sources. Both adjustments of macroeconomic policies and reform at the micro level have contributed a lot to China Miracle. This paper will focus on a role played by the Informal Sectors (ISs) in the process of China's economic growth. What we mean by ISs are those which exclude the state sectors of economy.
