The Seattle WTO talks may have been a mess, but experts say the outcome wasn't nearly as bad for growers as it has been portrayed. There's no question that slashing government subsidies to growers in other countries around the globe would be a boon to those here in the U.S., but that was never really on the table at the World Trade Organization (WTO) meeting last month in Seattle, WA, said the director of the state's Department of Ag. Jim Jesernig, along with Christian Schlect, president of the Northwest Horticulture Council, gave an update on the hearings last month at the Washington State Horticultural Association annual meeting.
