Development of culture methods for the geoduck clam in the USA (Washington state) and Canada (British Columbia)

Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest of called them "gweduk." The geoduck (Panopea abrupta) is one of the largest burrowing clams in the world, and represent the most valuable dive fishery in both Washington State (USA) and British Columbia (BC, Canada). In recent years, ex-vessel value for geoduck has exceeded US dollar 3.40 per kg. Current annual harvest limits in both Washington and BC are collectively about 1.8 million kg, with a cumulative product value of more than US dollar 50 million.
