Function honours kerbing graduates

The six graduates of Perth's first structured training course for kerbhands were celebrated at the CCF's industry luncheon in September.The graduates underwent 11 weeks of training-seven weeks in the classroom at West Coast College of TAFE's Balga campus and four weeks on the job-to gain the nationally recognized Certificate 1 in Civil Construction (Kerbhand). It is the first time that a training program with nationally recognized qualifications has been provided for workers in the kerbing industry.The course was developed by CCF in consultation with the major kerbing companies to help the industry overcome the disturbing trends of an aging workforce, high turnover rates and a lack of skilled young kerbhands in the job market.
