Trends in non-lead and heavy-metal-free wire and cable applications: as environmental concerns increase, so does the demand for products such as calcium/zinc stabilizers

This paper overviews the traditional use of lead-based stabilizers and the increasing focus on alternatives that are both friendly to the environment yet still cost-effective for manufacturers. Vinyl compounds for wire and cable. Compounds of polyvinyl chloride (PVC or vinyl) are in widespread use both as insulation and as jacketing for wire and cable manufacture. Vinyl provides: * good electrical properties; * good chemical resistance; * inherent flame retardancy; * relatively low cost; and * good recyclability.
