摘要

As the result of the study in the FSW Sub-Committee, the forthcoming Report 1 to Report 6 will report a series of findings from the investigation conducted according to the initial plan for FS-welded joints of medium-thickness 8 mm sheet, the measurement of residual stress and the examination of post-heating treatability. This paper has reported the outline of these study activities. In this section, those activities will be summarised instead of stating conclusions. With FS-welded joints, too, the detecting of flaws by non-destructive tests is extremely important. This study has proved that the ultrasonic phased array flaw detection test method is one of the promising methods, but it is not perfect. There is an urgent task to make a further study to develop in-service non-destructive inspection methods with even higher precision. For the time being, as has been implemented, it is desirable to manage strict conditions for procedures and conduct logical sampling inspection.
