YES, YOU'VE GUESSED it - the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X is the tenth generation of go-faster Lancers. Mitsubishi promises that it retains the monumental performance and handling of the previous cars, but with extra civility to make it easier to live with every day. Sounds good to me. There are three strengths of Evo: 291, 324 or 354bhp, but it was the 291bhp SST (Sports Shift Transmission) model that caught my eye. Its sophisticated semi-auto gearbox promises lightening-fast shifts that can be controlled by moving the gearlever backwards and forwards, or using two paddles behind the steering wheel - perfect for honing my rally driver technique. Plus, the full auto mode would help take the sting out of my traffic-choked 25-mile commute.
