Dribble system cuts diesel costs by up to 20 per cent

A farmer who used a Spreadwise umbilical system to apply 2,000 gallons of pig slurry to the acre, as part of the planned winter wheat fertilising programme, achieved yields of between 3.6 and 4,3 tonnes acre, using Soisson and Rialto seed. The slurrywas used on 120 acres in February 1996 as the first of three splits of nitrogen. At 2,000 gallons, it supplied about 35 units. Areas not treated with slurry were dressed with 18:6:12 fertiliser at 2 cwt to the acre.
