MGA conference 2002: farm walk at Tas valley mushrooms, Flordon 19th-20th September

Tucked away in the valley of the River Tas lies the farm of Vinnie and David Spurdens. I'd always wondered why the farm had such an unusual name. It's rather shame-fully obvious once you know. The farm walk began with lunch in the Flordon Social Centre and finished there, after the tour, with tea. The Flordon Social Centre isn't quite like any other village hall of my acquaintance and I've been in a lot in my time. It's a private hall run as a business. Norfolk's answer perhaps to the Irish shebeen, for all the family. And I'm not being covertly critical because it was a no smoking area, which it was. It was an integral part of the whole walk and acted as a splendid prelude and conclusion to the farm walk proper. There was a very nice lunch to begin with, sponsored by Sylvan, even a patriotic bar, as you can see from the photographs. All together a unique experience. Whilst on non-technical subjects there was some initial concern about people finding Flordon which on the day turned out to be unfounded. I personally found it easier to get into than get out of, which was far more troublesome.
