There is always a slight buzz of excitement when visiting a farm that you haven't been to before. They are all different, with individual characteristics and novel ways of approaching the various aspects of production and marketing. Perhaps one day our farms will have the standard format of the Irish and Dutch models but may be not, those once clone-like units seem to be diversifying rather than becoming more homogenous In Britain, for the moment anyway, there are no two farms the same, thus the excitement to find out how this one differs from all the others, to discover its particular angle for success and successful it must be to be there at all in 2003.
