Hybrid bluegrass is a new turfgrass under development for use in the southeastern U.S. However, the susceptibility of this species to different pathogens and its ability to compete with common turfgrass weeds are not well known. Characterization of the disease and weed pests that affect this species is needed. The primary lawn species in eastern Virginia is tall fescue since it maintains a green color throughout the winter compared to warm-season grasses such as bermudagrass. However, tall fescue isextremely susceptible to brown patch disease (Rhizoctonia solani), and as a result, fungicide applications are applied throughout the summer to control this disease.
