Maxxed up!

IN KEEPING with the German way of running a car through the winter months, from early November 2011 my Mk 6 Golf rolled on Dunlop's latest SP WinterSport DA cold-weather tyres, fitted to a set of basic steel rims, as reported in the February 2012 issue of Volkswagen Driver. While it didn't do anything for the aesthetics of the Golf, the steel wheels meant that I didn't have to have tyres swapped over and the factory Ronal alloys could be stored safely away from the detrimental effects of road salt. Although, this year, the north-west experienced only moderate quantities of ice and snow, the car's ability to traverse standing water was particularly impressive.
