Dusky Devon

Chris Burlace takes a look at the Devon Sundowner, a new VW-based motorcaravan with an old and prestigious name. The Devon name is the longest surviving, although not the oldest, in the British motorhome business. Peter Pitt's Moto-Caravan' based on the Type 2 Transporter appeared in 1956 and a year later cabinetmakers J.P. White of Sidmouth and Volkswagen dealers Lisburn Garages got together to make the first Devon. The company went on to become the UK's most successful manufacturer of VW-based motorcaravans and was, for some time in the 1970s, the only Volkswagen approved British converter.
