Heidi Barnaby recounts how she came to buy a Mk 7 Golf GTD DSG and how she and Roger fared on their first foreign foray with it... HAVING REACHED the grand age of... (I'm not admitting to anything!), I have owned several cars, but never a new one. So, some months ago, 'he who should be obeyed' said he thought I should change my trusty Mk 5 Golf GT TDI (approaching its 8th birthday), as it was time I had a new car... This is where the problems started. What to choose?! I thought about it and as this was likely to be my one and only ever new car, I decided that I wanted something 'pretty. In the dim and distant past, the choice would probably have been a red convertible with white leather, or a white convertible with red leather... you get the idea. Unfortunately, a low-slung sports car was out of the equation now, due to creaky knees! With a typically 'girly" attitude, colour was a major factor. Whilst exploring the potential purchase of a new car and going into a VW dealership, I went straight to the colour chart, pointed to a colour I liked and asked 'which car does this come in?' The salesman took this question remarkably well. Unfortunately, the car was not suitable and in any case the colour was being discontinued.
