IT ALL BEGAN BACK in 2007, while I was still the proud owner of a beautiful black 3-door Mk 5 Golf GTI. Now, I'd had the chance to order an Edition 30 when I bought my GTI, from Listers of Stratford-upon-Avon, but after seeing the hefty price tag and considering the fact that it seemed to have only a 'measly' 30 bhp more than the standard GTI and was fitted with some rather drab-looking alloys, I decided to stick with what I had... It was only later when I read, in the pages of Volkswagen Driver, that the Edition 30 did in fact have a de-tuned version of the high-performance S3 engine, that the brain started to tick. It's now well known that this unit can be easily re-mapped to produce well over 300 bhp and so my plans to replace the standard GTI were vastly accelerated, and another trip to Listers was soon on the cards!
