A pet's health can change dramatically in a short time, especially once the pet reaches its senior years. By implementing a semiannual wellness program in the clinic, the veterinary staff can establish a better bond with their clients and provide better care for their patients. Semiannual pet wellness examinations are beneficial for several reasons. First, dogs and cats age about five to seven times faster than humans do. Becausejofthat accelerated aging process, significant health changes can take place in as few as 3 to 6 months. Second, significant advances in veterinary medicine have contributed to pets living longer - the average life span of dogs is now 13 years while cats can live well into their 20s - resulting in the need for more frequentand specialized care and treatment for senior pets. Third, semiannual wellness examinations provide a better opportunity to detect, treat, or prevent potentially life-threatening illnesses or diseases. And fourth, when clients visit the clinic every 6 months, there is more opportunity to educate and bond with them; this enables the entire veterinary staff to better reach their goal of providing the best health care to their clients' pets.
