Prostatic tissue ectopia within the seminal vesicle: a potential source of confusion with seminal vesicle involvement by prostatic adenocarcinoma

Dear Editor:Ectopic prostatic tissue is an unusual but not uncommon finding in the genitourinary tract. Aberrant prostatic tissue occurs most commonly in the urethra and urinary bladder , but has also been observed in the testis , epididymis , penis [11], cervix, and vagina . The presence of benign ectopic prostatic glandular elements within the seminal vesicle is extremely rare, with only a single report in the literature describing this unusual finding [10]. Herein, we present an additional case of ectopic prostate tissue involving the seminal vesicle. Recognition and awareness of this phenomenon is important so as not to confuse this particular lesion with secondary involvement of the seminal vesicle by prostatic carcinoma#
